Skullcandy Ink'd Earphones Review
I recently purchased another set of cheap and cheerful earphones as my beloved Skullcandy Uprock headphones developed a fault with the wire. I really should try sending them back as they have a lifetime guarantee, or so I've been told! Anyway, I digress!
While I loved the Uprocks, and I am looking at how to get these repaired, I was aware that I also needed a pair of in-ear headphones for the gym and also for easy storage while in my bag. The solution to all of these concerns was the Skullcandy Ink'd in- ear headphones.
The Ink'd headphones come in a range of colours, and at such a low price, this means more than one set can be purchased to be used as an accessory for various outfits. This may seem silly, but if you are the type of person who accessorises their glasses, phone covers and belts to their outfit, accessorising your earphones may not be far off! As usual, I chose the pink shade and I was pleased with the black wire as this prevents any grubbiness showing over time. There is a cute Skullcandy logo on each earpiece, similar to that on the Uprocks, but much more petite.

Durability
Overall, these earphones seem much more durable than their overhead counterparts, mainly because they can be wrapped around my iPod or tucked into my iPhone sock while on the move. They are unlikely to be damaged if sat on, and the cable should be less prone to breaking at the input simply because the microphone can control song skipping and volume, which means less times in and out of the pocket.

Fitting
The headphones fit comfortably and come with a set of smaller buds, if required. Even though I have ears of differing sizes (due to surgery) I found that they were easily malleable and could fit both ears. Unlike other hard formed earphones, the Skullcandy Ink'd do not fall out easily and can stay in place during most activities.
Which type of headphones do you prefer?
Sound Quality
When I was testing the Skullcandy Uprocks, I was very impressed with the sound quality, as they isolated any outside noise and prevented interruptions to my listening. I am pleased to say that the Ink'd in ear variety have continued to impress me! If anything, the sound seems louder, and as they are in-ear headphones, the sound is delivered directly. I can almost feel the bass from my music now, and I definitely feel that this model is more compatible with my style of music- namely Rock n Roll and Metal- but they also work well with other genre's.
Test Scenario 1- Sleep
I am pleased to say that the Ink'd headphones are very comfortable to fall asleep with no matter what position I lay in. The small earbuds are flat at the back so there was no excessive pressure if I lay on my side, and they didn't go too far into my ear. The flat back also prevents snagging or catching on the sheets.
While testing these at night, I was careful to ensure the volume was turned down because everything seems so much quieter at might, and as the sound quality is great, I didn't want any of the songs to "boom in."
The click function of the earphones also worked well in this scenario as I could click twice to skip a song, meaning there was no need to disturb my sleepy state by looking at the bright iPod screen. I definitely recommend these for music fans who like to listen while they drift off.
Test Scenario 2- Bus
One perk of the Skullcandy Ink'd earphones is that they deliver chest- thumpingly great sound whenever necessary and this was highlighted particularly during my daily commute to work. While I don't recommend listening to music too loudly, as it can damage your hearing, I do personally prefer the volume to be at maximum to cover the usual whirring of engines and screeching of breaks- not a nice accompaniment to my tunes! I'm glad to say that while using these earphones, I didn't actually have to put the volume to maximum- the surrounding noise was already eliminated at the halfway mark! I am now able to arrive at work refreshed. Success!
Test Scenario 3- Shopping
What is better than your own soundtrack to life? I love music, so will listen to it at every opportunity. When I tested the Ink'd earphones in town during a shopping trip, they definitely enhanced the experience. I was able to avoid all unnecessary conversation with fellow shoppers, as well as avoid salespeople on the high street. The sound of children's tantrums and irritating tannoy announcements were eliminated. Once again, Skullcandy have succeeded in isolating all surrounding noise, resulting in a purer, unpolluted listening experience.
Overall Opinion
I have learned to love the in-ear headphone yet again. They are compact, easy to carry and can fit in a pocket unlike the over ear version.
Aesthetically, these headphones are great- small, discreet, stylish, and available in loads of colour combinations. The only thing I don't like about the design is the all black cable, but I think this can be forgiven.
They are great for day to day listening, as are perfect for most activities, and always stay put- I have had some in ear headphones that regularly fell out. I also must note that they are extremely comfortable, which can be a challenge for me with the in ear type headphones. I have no aching or soreness when using these, and I put it down to the lovely soft buds.
The sound quality is great, and the sound isolation makes public transport an absolute pleasure- I actually look forward to the bus journey each day now! While I still love my Uprocks, I think the Ink'd earphones are much better with my iPod, which has a volume limiter on it, in that they seem to make everything sound much louder.
The additional features make for easy listening, and there really isn't anything negative I can say about these headphones so, I think I will be using them for the foreseeable future!
